Balayage or ombre

  • I spotted the very crucial difference between balayage and ombré, and why the two aren’t even necessarily apt competitors.

So, balayage is a hair color technique in which the stylist strategically hand-paints color directly onto the hair, creating a more natural, blended, lived-in result. Ombre isn’t so much a technique as it is an effect. Basically, ombre is identified by a color contrast that begins dark at the roots, blends into a medium shade in the middle, and is lightest toward the ends. The result is a dramatic difference between the roots and ends of the hair, with the two shades blended in the middle.
