The Seahawks stopped Cam Newton at the goal line as time expired Sunday night to claim a 35-30 win over the Patriots.
Newton, who already had two rushing touchdowns in the game, lined up in theshotgun formation with three seconds left andhis opponent likely expecting the draw. He's such a powerful downhill force it usually doesn't matter whether or not the defense sees a run coming. But on this occasion, Seattle managed to meet him at the line of scrimmage and keep him from powering forward.
It would have been a dramatic comeback victory for New England had Newton's run been succe sful. After trailing 35-23, Bill Belichick's squad scored a quick touchdown, made a defensive stop and put the ball in Newton's hands with more than a minute left. Newton led his team to the 1 but no further.
