Viagra seems to be good for managing diabetes

  • July 16, 2020
Probably most people know about the main use of viagra, but in addition to helping men control erectile dysfunction, many other medical uses have been discovered for these blue pills. The most recent, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, found that the active ingredient, sildenafil, can prevent type 2 diabetes in people with prediabetes.

If they do not receive any type of treatment, it is very likely that 30 percent of people with prediabetes will develop type 2 diabetes. So sildenafil may be an aid in reducing the progression from prediabetes to diabetes. It was also found to reduce the risk of heart and kidney disease.
Although the ideal would be to control prediabetes with a balanced diet and an exercise program, there are many people who are not willing to follow them to the letter. For these cases, medications are the norm. The sildenafil is actibo compound Viagra, and works to inhibit the enzyme that breaks the substance responsible for dilating blood vessels, cGMP. Sildenafil has previously been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in mice.

    sugar blood
Insulin-sensitive people need lower amounts of insulin to lower blood sugar levels than people who have low sensitivity, or who are insulin resistant. Insulin resistance occurs when there are high levels of sugar in the blood, and the person cannot make enough insulin, or the insulin it produces does not work properly to remove sugar from the blood. This leads to the development of type 2 .diabetes pills

To test whether sildenafil improved insulin sensitivity, 51 overweight and prediabetes people participated in the study. The participants were divided into two groups, and for three months, some were given 25 milligrams of sildenafil three times a day, and the others a placebo. Hyperglycemic tests were done before and at the end of treatment to measure glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity. They also had urine tests to measure their albumin and creatinine levels, indicators of heart and kidney problems.

The results showed that, the subjects who were treated with sildenafil presented higher insulin sensitivity. There was also a reduction in albumin levels in the urine, compared to those taking the placebo. Medications like sildenafil also affect the function of the inner lining of blood vessels. This has a subtle effect on blood sugar metabolism and insulin resistance.

Many of the drugs used today to prevent type 2 diabetes can have negative effects on the heart, or are not recommended for patients with kidney problems. So finding a drug without these side effects is good news.

It is known that erectile dysfunction is quite common in diabetic men, since it is related to a decrease in the blood supply to the penis, and nerve damage that are responsible for producing an erection.
